On the 4th ESCAP Ministerial Conference on Transport.

The 4th Ministerial Conference on Transport was held at the ESCAP headquarters in Bangkok on December 14-17, 2021. Delegations of the Commission’s member states, representatives of special agencies of the UN system and other international organizations, as well as business entities attended the event. The Russian delegation included representatives of Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the ESCAP.

The meeting saw an extensive exchange of national experience in the field of sustainable transport infrastructure between ESCAP member states (while taking into account the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic). The session participants stated that despite significant progress in improving transport connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region, further efforts in this area are required to address the region’s socio-economic problems and timely implement the Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, further work will focus on topics such as regional land transport connectivity, maritime and interregional transport connectivity, digitalization of transport, low-carbon mobility, urban transport, road safety and transport mobility.

The Conference resulted in the adoption of the Ministerial Declaration on the Development of Sustainable Transport in the Asia-Pacific Region and the Regional Action Program on the Development of Sustainable Transport in the Asia-Pacific Region (2022–2026). Universal support for the Declaration served as proof of a general commitment to employing collective approaches to interaction on the transport track.
