75th session of ESCAP opens in Bangkok

On 27 May the 75th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) opened in Bangkok. Representatives of ESCAP member states and associate members, other UN system bodies, experts from international organizations, financial institutions, academic sector and civil society are participating in the major Commission’s meeting of the year.

The main theme topic of this session is «Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality». The participants are going to analyse progress in implementation of the Agenda-2030 in Asia and the Pacific with a focus on broadening rights and opportunities of people and to define measures for strengthening cooperation to put the region on a track of sustainable development.

Russian delegation had a meeting with Ms. Armida S. Alisjahbana, ESCAP Executive Secretary, on the sidelines of the session. Both sides reconfirmed mutual will for further development of cooperation in all thematic areas of the Commission activities, for stronger real outcome of the projects of technical cooperation implemented from the sources of the Russian voluntary contribution. Special attention was paid to the issue of development of organization and methods of work of ESCAP.

The 75th ESCAP session will be closed on 31 May.
