On July 15, 2019 H.E. Mr. Evgeny Tomikhin, Ambassador of Russia to the Kingdom of Thailand, met H.E. Mrs. Argaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Dean of the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassador and the Dean exchanged views on ways to increase cooperation in education. Both parties emphasized a huge potential of mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Thailand in the field of education for diplomats, including the partnership with the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. It was decided to prioritize promoting student exchanges as well as organizing workshops, special courses, seminars with the invitation of Russian experts on international relations.    

The Diplomatic Training Unit under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand was opened in 1962 under the guidance of H.E. Dr. Thanat Koman, then Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2006 the Institute was bestowed the name «Devawongse Varopakarn» by His Majesty King Rama IX after His Royal Highness Prince Devawongse Varopakarn hailed as the “Father of Thai Diplomacy”.
