Travel to Russia
Your Excellency Mr. Alongkorn Ponlaboot, First Vice-Chairman of the National Reform Steering Assembly,
Your Excellency Professor Chavanee Tongroach, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports,
Your Excellency Mrs. Busaya Mathelin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
My beloved compatriots,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Sawasdee Krab, добрый вечер, good evening!
It happened so that exactly 120 years ago King Rama V Chulalongkorn began his historic visit to the Russian Empire. He was received by Emperor Nicholas II as equal, as a friend and a brother. The two monarchs agreed to exchange envoys and to develop close partnership between Russia and Siam. 120 years mean a lot. It means ten 12 years’ cycles or two big cycles of 60 years. The auspicious anniversary that we are celebrating this year is a powerful reminder that our countries share common history, common destiny, common values and common aspirations. It also reminds us that Russia and Thailand are always driven by the strong will of our leaders to enhance bilateral relations and by friendly sentiments of our peoples towards each other.
70 years of this long journey belonged to the reign of His Majesty late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. We owe His Majesty all the achievements in our relations in the post WW II time, after the USSR Embassy was opened in Bangkok and the Royal Thai Embassy was opened in Moscow. His Majesty blessed our nations to remain partners through difficult years of the Cold War and to reset our relations in late 80’s. He warmly welcomed President Vladimir Putin in Bangkok in 2003.
May I ask you to honour the memory of His Majesty late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, a great man and a good friend of my country, with a minute of silence.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all at the Russian National Day reception. To me it is a unique opportunity to extend my cordial gratitude to all those who support us in our efforts to promote Russian-Thai friendship and to strengthen our cooperation. I would like to particularly thank the Royal Thai Government and all its Ministries, National Legislative Assembly, Royal Thai Armed Forces, Royal Thai Police, Thai-Russian Business Council, Thai-Russian Chamber of Commerce, all friends from the business community and civil society, universities, research centers, in particular Russian studies centers and Russian language programmes, mass media, ballet schools and dance companies, symphony orchestras and jazz bands, all Russians living and working in Thailand, Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand, Honorary Counsuls of Russia in Pattaya and Phuket. Without your support and your friendship, the remarkable progress in cooperation between our two countries, that we are so proud of, would not have been possible. You are the best. I love you!
May I now invite you to listen to the Royal Thai Anthem.
Let me propose a toast: to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebaiavarangkun. To the King!
And now the National Anthem of the Russian Federation.
Let me propose a toast: to His Excellency Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation! To the President!
Thank you for your attention and enjoy the evening!
