The 7th session of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction was held at ESCAP Headquarters on 25-27 of August 2021. Delegates from 37 member states of the Commission attended the meeting as well as representatives of the UN specialized agencies and other relevant international organizations, as well as business structures. The Russian delegation included officials from the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters and the Permanent Mission to UN ESCAP.
During the meeting, a broad exchange of national experience took place in the field of solving tasks for building the socio-economic infrastructure of the ESCAP member states that is resistant to various natural hazards. As part of the Committee's work, a thematic online portal on disasters was also launched, accumulating country data on the changing geography of the regional risk landscape.
At the end of the session, the delegates decided to develop a policy document on disaster risk prevention in the region, which will focus on improving the coordination of work and enhancing the efforts of ESCAP member States in disaster risk reduction in order to achieve the goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in a timely manner.
