Travel to Russia
On the 9-10th June 2021 the Regional Meeting for the Asia-Pacific “City and Transport: Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability” was held in the videoconference mode under the auspices of ESCAP within the framework of technical cooperation financed from the funds of the Russian voluntary contribution to the Commission.
The meeting brought together experts of relevant ministries, business and academic representatives from around 30 ESCAP member-states as well as international organizations. The Russian side was presented by representatives of the Ministry of Transport, academic and business circles. Mr. Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, and Mr. Sergei Kravchuk, Mayor of Khabarovsk, delivered their welcome remarks.
The participants considered relevant challenges in the area of enhancing urban transport sector and formulated priorities for further cooperation under the auspices of ESCAP on improvement of urban transport systems based on sustainable development.
Based on the deliberations, a declaration was adopted which contains specific recommendations on development of urban passenger transport by ESCAP member states in accordance with the SDGs.
The outcome of the meeting is considered as a significant input into the 4th ESCAP Ministerial conference on transport (scheduled for 14-17 December 2021).
