On 20 October 2020 – the World Statistics Day – Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) in Moscow presented International center of statistical expertise “Centrostat”. The launch has become a result of cooperation between Rosstat, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) and the World Bank.
Centrostat’s objective is to train experts and provide consultancy services in statistics. The organization also plans to introduce specific customized courses in Russian for interested countries.
Mr. Kaveh Zahedi, Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Ms. Gemma Van Halderen, Director of the Statistics Division of the ESCAP Secretariat, and Mr. Ashish Kumar, Head of SIAP, participated in the online-conference on the occasion of launch of the Centrostat.
As Mr. Zahedi mentioned, “Rosstat has gained high authority in the international statistical community, its expertise and best methodological practices are of high relevance in countries from the Asian and Pacific region”.
Opening of the Centrostat is an important milestone in the Russian multisectoral cooperation with ESCAP partners. Its activities will contribute significantly to strengthening the potential of many national statistical services in Asia and the Pacific and to ensuring quality monitoring of achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals.
