On 5 March, 2018 the High Level Conference on Sustainable Development, Crime Prevention and Safe Societies opened at the UNESCAP headquarters. The event was held under the auspices of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the support of the Thailand Institute of Justice. The meeting brought together a wide range of regional criminal justice and public security experts as well as representatives of the UN bodies, academic community and NGO.
H.E. Mr. Yury Fedotov, UNODC Executive Director, and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol, UNODC Goodwill Ambassador, addressed the Conference.
The participants discussed ways of enhancing criminal justice, mechanisms of crime prevention and ensuring the rule of law for implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 16 «promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable institutions at all levels».
The Royal Thai Government was represented by ACM Prajin Chungtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice.
Among the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Bangkok and present at the Conference was H.E. Mr. Kirill Barsky, Ambassador of Russia to Thailand.
