On December 18, 2017 a special event dedicated to the International Migrants Day was held at the headquarters of ESCAP. It was organized on the initiative of the Embassy of Bangladesh in cooperation with UN ESCAP Secretariat and with the support of the International Organization for Migration.

The International Migrants Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly (resolution 55/93 of 2000), which decided to celebrate it annually on December 18.

In their statements, the participants of the meeting touched upon various aspects of migration - social, legal, human rights, demographic, gender, etc., emphasizing the need to mobilize the political will of governments to adopt the United Nations Global Compact for safe, regular and orderly migration next year.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to ESCAP Mr. Oleg Shamanov outlined the approaches of our country to the development of the above-mentioned document.
