On August 8, 2018 the first “BRICS Countries Networking Event” was held in the India-Thai Chamber of Commerce building. The event initiated by the Indian business community in Thailand gathered more than 180 participants from Chambers of Commerce of the five countries.
The lively networking was followed by a panel discussion. Six panelists included H.E. Mr. Geoffrey Doidge, Ambassador of South Africa to Thailand (currently South Africa holds presidency in BRICS), Mr. Vitaly Kiselev, Vice-President of the Thai-Russian Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Prasong Owlarn, Deputy Secretary General of thr Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Marcelo Souza, President of the Brazil-Thailand Chamber of Commerce, Peter Taylor, Director of the Thai-South African Chamber of Commerce and Mr. D.K.Agarwal, CEO of the Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Amonthep Chawla, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of CIMB Thai Bank.
Among the guests of honor of the event were Ambassadors and senior diplomats of the Embassies of BRICS countries in Bangkok. In his opening remarks H.E. Mr. Bhagwant Singh Bishnoi, Ambassador of India, warmly welcomed all the participants.
The event concluded with a press-conference of heads of diplomatic missions of “Big Five” countries for Thai and foreign journalists and a traditional Indian-style dinner.
