On March 16, 2018 the Russian Embassy hosted an unusual «Intellectual Tea Party»: Indian journalist Mr. Ajay Kamalakaran presented his book «Globetrotting for Love and Other Stories from Sakhalin Island».
In 2003-2007 Mr. Kamalakaran was the editor of «Sakhalin Times» newspaper in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and since 2011 has been a columnist and editor with «Russia Beyond The Headlines» international publication in Moscow. He was the first to write and publish English-language guidebook for the Sakhalin region.
The journalist shared his impression of living and working on Sakhalin with sincere nostalgia and cordiality. Numerous guests of the evening were all ears surprised by the stories about past and present day of that very beautiful island in the Far East of Russia inhabited by strong and at the same time kind and caring people of different nationalities and confessions. They, like Mr. Kamalakaran, call Sakhalin - the region of vast opportunities, open for cooperation with Asia-Pacific countries, home.
Discussions with the author during which everyone had a chance to voice his opinion or to ask question was very exciting especially given that many Thais who attended the event like Mr. Kasit Piromya, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and former Ambassador of Thailand to Russia had first-hand knowledge about our country. Every guest got a copy of the book with dedication.
As usual, the participants were served with traditional Russian refreshments: blinis and small pies «Pirozhki» and lot of samovar tea.
