On February 27-28, 2018 H.E. Mr. Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, paid a working visit to Bangkok. He was received by H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. Mr. Nikolai Patrushev also held meetings with H.E. General Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Thailand and H.E. General Wanlop Rugsanaoh, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Thailand.
Mr. Nikolai Patrushev and General Prayut Chan-o-cha discussed a broad range of issues in the Russian-Thai relations with a focus on interaction in enhancing international and regional security.
The sides expressed satisfaction with an efficient cooperation between law enforcement agencies of the two countries in combating transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. They praised the reliable channel of communication between the Security Councils of Russia and Thailand aimed at ensuring timely response to new challenges and threats including in the sphere of information security and countering international terrorism.
With General Prawit Wongsuwon topics related to strengthening of interaction between defence ministries of Russia and Thailand as well as bilateral military and technical cooperation were discussed.
The interlocutors summed up the outcomes of the Fourth Meeting of the Russia-Thailand Joint Working Group on Security Consultation held on February 27 within the framework of the visit. During the Working Group meeting the two delegations discussed in detail prospects of bilateral joint efforts in countering international terrorism including the suppression of it’s financing. The sides agreed to strengthen information exchange on these issues between the intelligence agencies. Besides that the Russian side put forward an initiative to hold separate bilateral expert consultations on international information security.
