On December 7, 2017 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of the Russian Federation hosted an organizational meeting of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council.
Mr. Vladimir Padalko, Vice-President of the Russian CCI, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economic Development, Moscow CCI and Moscow region CCI as well as members of bilateral business councils with ASEAN countries took part in the conference.
The participants of the meeting noted a significant intensification of the economic cooperation between Russia and ASEAN in the recent years. An increased interest of Russia towards participation in joint infrastructural projects in Southeast Asia was emphasized.
The meeting culminated with the elections of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council new leadership. Mr. Ivan Polyakov, CEO of the Interstate Corporation for Development who had been serving as Chairman of the Russian-Thai Business Council for the last three years was elected Chairman of the Council.
The Russia-ASEAN Business Council adopted a 2018 Work Programme. In particular, it was decided to produce a list of promising projects and areas of multilateral cooperation, to ensure the participation of the Russian business circles in ASEAN business for a and to put forward suggestions on business cooperation to be considered at the meetings of intergovernmental joint commissions with ASEAN countries.
