On October 8, 2017 Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand completed Her eight-days’ visit to Russia. At the Suvarnabhumi airport Her Royal Highness was welcomed by H.E. Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Director-General of the Department of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and H.E. Mr. Kirill Barsky, Ambassador of Russia to Thailand.
HRH Princess Sirindhorn who was accompanied by a group of gifted Thai students began Her trip with visiting Sochi where She was a guest of the «Sirius» Education Center.
While in Moscow Her Royal Highness familiarized Herself with the work of the Skolkovo Innovation Center, the Kolmogorov’s boarding school – Advanced Educational Scientific Center (faculty) of the Moscow State University, the Marshal Vasily Chuikov School. She also toured the Cathedral of the Assumption, the Sobornaya Square of the Moscow Kremlin, the Grand Kremlin Palace, the Kremlin Armoury and the Diamond Fund. HRH Princess Sirindhorn had a meeting with H.E. Mrs. Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
In Saint Petersburg Her Royal Highness had a busy program too. The Princess attended the performance of the khon traditional Thai masked dance on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater. The Thai delegation visited the «School of Physics and Technology» Lyceum of the St Petersburg National Research Academic University
of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University itself, the Vladimir Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Science, the Science Park of the Saint-Petersburg State University, as well as the Saint Petersburg city office of the Russian Geographical Society which was not originally in the itinerary of the visit. Her Royal Highness had a sightseeing tour to the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, the Peterhof Grand Palace, the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Saint Isaac's Cathedral, and acquainted Herself with the rich collection of the State Hermitage Museum.
The Royal visit of HRH Princess Sirindhorn, second after Her trip to Russia in early 1990s, was arranged in conjunction with the 120th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Thailand, which is celebrated in 2017.
