On September 11, 2017 the 19th International Festival of Dance and Music opened in Bangkok. Due to the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Thailand this year the Festival opened with the ballet «Katya and the Prince of Siam» performed by the Ekaterinburg Ballet and Opera Theatre.
The ballet was very warmly welcomed by the audience, which is aware of the story of love between H.R.H. Prince Chakrabongse of Siam, the son of H.M. King Rama V, and a Russian girl Ekaterina Desnitskaya.
H.E. Mr. Veera Rojpojanarat, Minister of Culture of Thailand, H.E. Mrs. Apiradi Tantraporn, Minister of Commerce of Thailand, H.E. Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, H.E. Mrs. Busaya Mathelin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, M.R. Narisa Chakrabongse, granddaughter of Prince Chakrabongse, were among the guests of the evening.
Ballet-lovers – politicians, officials, business people, journalists, cultural figures, diplomatic corps – highly estimated both the ballet itself and its symbolic significance in the anniversary year for Russia and Thailand.
