Le Corsaire, based on Lord Byron’s poem, is a classical heritage ballet. The Bangkok staging is a spectacular production, choreographed and staged by the legend himself: Yuri Grigorovich.
Danced by award-winning dancers Oleg Shaibakov and Sofia Gavriushina, it is a swashbuckling tale of pirates and damsels in distress and is action-packed. It is love at first sight for Conrad (the dashing pirate) and Medora, who he first sees at a slave market.
Personally staged by Yuri Grigorovich, it is identical to his Bolshoi Theatre productions. The world-renowned, choreographer, was for over thirty years the choreographer of the Bolshoi Ballet Theatre. Set to the score of Adolphe Adam, its libretto is by Jules-Henri de Saint-Georges and Joseph Mazilier and has been adapted by Grigorovich. Identical to the Bolshoi Theatre production, it comes complete with all the iconic dancing scenes – Le Jardin Animé, Pas d’Esclave, the Grand Pas de Trois des Odalisques and Le Corsaire Pas de Deux. The compelling stage design by Bolshoi Theatre’s Nikolai Sharonov, under the supervision of Yuri Grigorovich, transports you effortlessly from the marketplace in Adrianople, to the pirates’ lair with pit stops in the pasha’s palace on the island of Cos.
Conducting the orchestra for is German Kim, an Honoured Artist of Russia.
