On June 29, 2017 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand organized a press-briefing of H.E. Mr. Songphol Sukchan, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs. He briefed Thai and Russian journalists on the concept of the «Russian Festival» to be held from July 14 to 16, 2017 in Bangkok’s shopping and leisure center «Siam Paragon». The «Russian Festival» will be one of the pinnacles of celebrations of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Thailand.
The mascot of the «Russian Festival» - a toy polar bear wearing Muai Thai shorts and boxing gloves, was presented to the public. His name is «Russky Sri Ayudhya». This charming mascot symbolizes friendship and proximity of the peoples of our countries.
On the same day Professor Krairoek Nana, renowned Thai writer and historian, gave a lecture in the Foreign Ministry on the history of establishment of Russian-Siamese ties, global political situation in late 19th century and the development of Soviet-Thai relations in the 20th century. The staff of the Thai MFA, university teachers and students studying the Russian language as well as the representatives of the diplomatic corps were invited to the lecture. Also present were former Ambassadors of Thailand to the Soviet Union and Russia.
