Russia knowledge quiz

On June 23, 2017 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand held a quiz for high school students on the knowledge of Russia.

Schoolchildren from all over the country travelled to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to participate in the quiz: in total 61 schools took part in the event. Students have been preparing for a long time, reading books and studying materials about Russia, in order to quickly and correctly answer questions. Some of them were very difficult, like "the name of the spacecraft which carried Yuri Gagarin into space" or "the name of the founder of St. Petersburg".

The quiz was opened with a welcoming speech delivered by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Mr. Panyarak Poolthup. After the testing students had a chance to talk about the country of their interest and education opportunities in Russia with a diplomat of the Russian Embassy in Thailand.

To a surprise of the hosts and quests of the event, students were giving excellent answers to questions of the quiz. Three Bangkok based teams were announced winners: teams of the St.Gabriel’s College, Wat Rachabopit School and Triamudomsuksa School.

The quiz was held as one of the preparatory events for the “Russian Festival” – a key event planned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with support of the Russian Embassy in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Thailand. “Russian Festival” will be held at the Fashion Hall of the Siam Paragon shopping mall from 14 to 16 July, 2017. The quiz winners will be invited to the opening ceremony to receive their awards.
