The second meeting of the Working Group on Banking and Financial Cooperation, which works in the framework of the Joint Russian-Thai Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, was held in Bangkok on April 19, 2017. The Russian delegation was headed by Mr. Andrey Melnikov, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Public Communications Department of the Bank of Russia, the Thai delegation was led by Mrs. Alisara Mahasandana, Senior Director of the International Department of the Bank of Thailand.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current development of the economies of Russia and Thailand and the status of banking sectors in the two countries. It was reconfirmed that both sides were interested in the strengthening cooperation between Russian and Thai financial institutions and their respective associations. A dialogue on using national currencies in the bilateral trade settlements was continued.
One of the key items of the meeting’s agenda was a discussion on prospects of the Russian national payment service provider «Mir» («Peace») credit cards being serviced in the Thai banks.
