On November 14, 2017 the biggest center of Russian studies in Thailand, part of the Faculty of Liberal Arts of the Thammasat University held a jubilee event «We’ve been friends for 120 years».

Young Russian language students wearing national costumes cordially greeted the guests in the best Russian tradition – with a loaf of bread and a bit of salt. Prof. Noranit Setabutr, President of the University Council, and H.E. Mr. Kirill Barsky, Ambassador of Russia to Thailand welcomed the professors, graduates and students of the University at the opening ceremony. Closing remarks were delivered at the end of the event by Prof. Dr. Somkit Lertpaithoon, Thammasat University’s rector.

At the request of the University H.E. Mr. Kirill Barsky delivered a lecture on the modern Russia and current state of Russian-Thai relations. Prof. Noranit Setabutr captivated the audience’s attention with a speech on «Milestones of the Russian-Thai relations history».

During the exposition placed on the University’s esplanade, the Ambassador toured the exhibition dedicated to the Thai-Russian relations in Thai language, interacted with students who enthusiastically shared their knowledge on the Russian culture, history of our countries’ relations, Russian religion, traditions, and their personal opinion and impressions about Russia.

Students brilliantly performed Russian folk songs, dances and even staged a cooking tournament and invited the Ambassador to join their efforts in cooking the famous “Dressed herring” salad and “Syrniki”, cottage cheese pancakes.

This day became a genuine milestone for the Thammasat University as it was traditionally held in a warm, heart-felt and intimate atmosphere. Everybody will remember it with very bright impressions and a big quantity of group photos.
