On August 9-10, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov paid a working visit to the Kingdom of Thailand. He held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai and had a meeting with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
There was a detailed exchange of views on prospects for the development of Russian-Thai cooperation with an emphasis on implementing top-level understandings aimed at intensifying the political dialogue, increasing trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, and achieving closer interaction on global and regional issues.
In connection with the 120th anniversary of Russian-Thai diplomatic relations to be celebrated later this year, both parties emphasised the traditionally friendly nature of ties between the two states.
During his visit, Sergey Lavrov wrote in the book of condolences in connection with the demise in 2016 of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand and handed out Russian Foreign Ministry awards to Russia’s Honorary Consuls in Pattaya and on Phuket.
