Asia-Pacific UN Summit on the Environment and Development

On September 5-8, the UN ESCAP headquarters in Bangkok hosted the first Asia-Pacific Ministerial Summit on the Environment and Development, comprised of parallel meetings of UN ESCAP Seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development and UNEP Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia and the Pacific.

Delegations from over 30 countries of the Asia-Pacific region assessed the current state of environment at the regional context, overviewed further perspectives of development of multilateral cooperation in the field of environment protection under the umbrella on the United Nations, as well as agreed on priority areas of collaboration with the view of promotion of the concept of resource-efficient and pollution-free Asia-Pacific, stressing the sustainable use of natural resources. These decisions have been incorporated in the text of the Ministerial declaration of the UN ESCAP Conference adopted by consensus. 

The Russian interagency delegation comprised of the representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation took part in the Summit.
